The story tells you about the doom of the households of Urmila, whose husband decided to follow his brother into the exile and of Mandavi, whose husband willingly left her to do his penance on the banks of River Sarayu, for the pain his mother Kaikeyi had caused to his family. The book also describes the relationship of four sisters, who were not sisters by blood, but the love they had for each other was unparalleled. Urmila had an open, vivacious countenance, her oval face accentuated by a pair of wide spaced, big, flashing eyes, a trim, pert nose, full rose-bud lips which curved open and generously in a potently appealing smile and which none could resist. She was beautiful, warm, vibrant, and sparkling. It is a tale of a beautiful yet distressing love story of Lakshman and Urmila. The story is set across their childhood to the very end of Ramayana. The novel Sita’s Sister, which is also our latest literary possession, is based on the life of Urmila, Lakshman’s wife and the most overlooked character in the epic. While we were so focused on the struggles faced by Sita, Ram and Lakshman in the jungle, we never thought what might have happened to Urmila, whose husband did not even consider her before taking the big decision of following his brother into the exile for 14 years. We all have read, heard, or seen the epic ‘Ramayana’ numerous times, isn’t it? We are very well aware of the main characters – Ram, Sita, Lakshman, Dashrath, Kaikeyi, Manthara, Ravana & their stories.
